Abstract:
The quality and character of our schools largely depends on its teachers. The teachers in turn, strongly reflect the strengths and shortcomings of the colleges that select and provide initial preparation to them. If school must change to meet the challenges of this century, the education of our teachers must change as well. Various committees and commissions stressed the need of a quality teacher education programme from time to time.
